Effective 14 August 2026.

The idea

This is a room full of people who care about whiskey. Disagree about a pour all you like. Be the sort of person other people want to pour for.

What belongs here

  • Tasting notes, honest reviews and the bottles that disappointed you.
  • Photographs of your own pours, shelves and finds.
  • Questions from people new to bourbon, answered without condescension.
  • Prices you actually saw, on a shelf or a receipt.
  • Distillery news, releases and corrections to anything we have wrong.

What does not

  • Harassment, personal attacks, or following someone from thread to thread.
  • Hate speech or slurs of any kind, including anything aimed at race, religion, national origin, gender, sexuality or disability.
  • Threats, doxxing, or posting anyone's private information.
  • Sexual content, gore, or anything designed to shock.
  • Spam, affiliate links, and self promotion dressed as a review.
  • Impersonating a distillery, a brand, a retailer or another member.
  • Deliberately false prices or reviews, whether to talk a bottle up or to talk it down.
  • Encouraging dangerous drinking, or posting content aimed at people under 21.

No buying or selling

Bourbon Project is not a marketplace. Do not offer to sell, buy, trade or ship bottles here, and do not post to arrange a deal elsewhere. In much of the United States private resale of spirits is illegal, and we are not going to be the venue for it. Posts of this kind are removed on sight.

Photos and copyright

Post your own photographs. Do not upload someone else's images, press shots you have no licence for, or screenshots of another member's private messages. If you own a photo that has been posted without permission, tell us at support@bourbonproject.com and we will take it down.

Reporting and blocking

Every post and reply has a report action, and every member can be blocked from their profile or from a post. Blocking is immediate and one sided: their posts and replies stop appearing for you, and they are not told. Reporting is private, and the member you report does not see who reported them.

Report the content rather than replying to it. A reply gives an argument the oxygen it is looking for, and it makes the thread harder for everyone else to read.

What we do about it

We review reports and usually act within 24 hours. Depending on what happened, we may remove the content, ask you to edit it, limit posting for a period, or close the account. Threats, doxxing and content involving minors skip the warning and go straight to a closed account, and we report to the authorities where we must.

Removing a post does not remove your collection, your notes or your membership. Those are yours.

If we get it wrong

Moderation is done by people and people make mistakes. If your post was removed or your account was limited and you think it was wrong, write to support@bourbonproject.com with the details. We will look again and tell you either way.
